My second reading of Strawson’s essay was very similar to the first. The most notable changes were the fact that I personally felt more confident in my opinions whether or not I agreed with him. Having discussed and thought trough my feelings on whether or not everyone thinks in terms of narrative or if everyone even has a life story I felt less compelled by some of his points. I also took note of his sarcastic or negative attitude towards other authors. He usually disagrees with them in an almost rude manner. He also posses a sort of pretentions tone throughout the whole piece. Strawson uses a lot of fancy vocabulary in his writing and does things like slip in a lot Latin in order to make himself seem more intelligent but when his argument doesn’t seem to hold up it more so comes off as annoying. I also looked up the meaning of many of the phrases he used that I did not understand. Doing this allowed me to get a deeper understanding of his arguments. I still felt overall that he supported the other arguments better than his own. His arguments are dwarfed by his massive library of quotes.

I’m surprised to read this. Your previous reflection left me feeling you agreed with some of his points. I think it’s cool that your second read placed you in a stronger position to read critically, however. Your annotations look great.
