Many scientists out there may say that the arts have no place in the scientific method, that the abstract thinking and unorthodox methodology of artists would hinder discovery and understanding. Such ways of manipulating information will yield no practical results because it is not practical thinking. To this, I say they are mistaken, not only can artists and abstract thinking aid science but it already has. Niels Bohr took inspiration from cubist paintings ( A form of abstract art) to develop his understanding and methodology of an atomic model. Abstract thinking allows you to understand something for how it feels and operates in practice. Even if it is not accurate exactly what it does in the realm it is found an analogy can give a deeper understanding to a concept by placing it in a setting you can rap your head around.

Excellent. You give your naysayer a nice amount of space to flesh out an argument. Niels Bohr provides you with an excellent example (you might acknowledge Lehrer’s intro). I’m curious if you can think of any other examples.
