When it comes to the idea of clearing the fog there is not much to be done in this essay. The author uses modern language and writes in a relatively digestible way. The times I tried to clear the fog were to make sure I understood what “prototypical” meant and the idea of “reflexive metaphor“. While I could not find a definition for reflexive metaphor looking up its components gives you a good sense of what the author meant. Clearing the fog in this way is helpful but not as essential to understanding the piece as clearing the fog on a term relating to the main idea or one that repeats in a denser text. As a concept clearing the fog is very necessary when you do not understand a reference, word, or phrase because without this understanding the message of the piece may be lost to you.

On my second read trough, I did not identify any new large ideas or read deeper into anything significant. I did, however, develop a few new questions on the essay. Knowing he metaphors beforehand also let me focus on their individual parts more than the first read-through. The first time reading this piece was also far more entertaining while reading it identifying the metaphors and seeing the ideas for the first time was a very interesting and fun experience but reading it a second time so soon it lost most of its entertainment value and therefore its engagement.

    Drew,

I’m not sure if I can spot your second annotations. I am glad that your first read proved so thorough, however!
